WHEN Amy Schumer goes to a bar she understands the pay and conditions the staff have to endure.
The 34-year-old used to wait tables and be a bartender before her break in comedy,Inside Amy Schumer, and on the big screen in the comedy film she wrote and starred in, Trainwreck.
When she went with her boyfriend Ben Hanisch, her sister, Kim Caramele, and three mates to Broadway’s hot new musical Hamilton, she spent $77 on drinks at the theatre bar. She left a $1000 tip.
“I was very touched, it was just something so generous and so kind that you don’t see every day,” bar worker Madeleine DeJohn told the New York Daily News.

It was not the first time that Schumer had tipped the staff at the Richard Rodgers Theatre.
DeJohn, an aspiring actor, said that previously she gave an $80 tip for a $40 bill
When DeJohn thanked Schumer then for the generosity, Schumer told her, “I’ve been there, I get it,” the bartender said.
The tip was the biggest the theatre bar staff had received despite Hamilton neing seen by the likes of Beyonce, Jay Z, Kanye West and the First President Michelle Obama.
“I’d like to think if I become that successful, that I can do the same,” DeJohn said. “She’s been one of us. She reminded me that there’s still a lot of good in the world.”
The tip was split up between the six bar staff, all of whom are aspiring actors.
Schumer, who has just announced a tour of the US, is also making a fifth season of the award-winningInside Amy Schumer on Foxtel’s Comedy Central, which willshow the fourth season from April 21.
