INDIAN actress Jyothi Krishna has slammed those who photoshopped her face onto pornographic images, saying they had failed to embarrass her in a post online.
Writing in local dialect Malayalam, the Kerala-born actress said someone “not from a good family” had taken her face and added it to a picture of their mother or sister and been sharing it on social media. She found out from friends and family who contacted her after seeing the picture.
The star of local movie God for Sale told the BBC she wanted to speak out to “give other social media harassment victims like myself, the strength to express their voice and bring culprits in front of the law”. Her post has been shared more than 2000 times on Facebook.
The actress said she had also complained to police about what was a “huge problem” in the region where a conservative view on sex and relationships is combined with high technological literacy. User statistics from website PornHub show Indians are some of the most prolific porn users in the world, much of which is streamed to mobile devices.
It’s not the first time someone’s image has been manipulated for sexual gratification. In August two teenage boys were arrested after allegedly creating a fake videoshowing actress Asha Sarath with a producer.
Meanwhile in 2010 a UK man escaped a jail sentence after superimposing the face ofHarry Potter star Emma Watson onto images of children in his home. At the time, Judge Hammond told him he was not allowed the “pathetic images” because children had been harmed while making them.
